Some motorcycle rides are about covering ground. This one gives you a reason to take your time. Willow City Loop winds through rugged countryside near Fredericksburg, where the changing landscape makes a short stretch of pavement feel like the centerpiece of an entire day.
Pair it with a visit to Enchanted Rock and you have the ingredients for a memorable outing: a scenic morning ride, a break off the bike, and an easygoing finish back in town.
We included this area in our guide to the Best Motorcycle Rides in Texas. Here is how to build a day around it.
Two Destinations, One Good Day on the Bike
Use Fredericksburg as your starting point for fuel, breakfast, and a quick check of your tires, lights, brakes, and luggage. Save your route before leaving town.
- Head toward Willow City. Take TX 16 north from Fredericksburg, then turn east onto Ranch Road 1323 toward Willow City.
- Ride Willow City Loop. From Willow City, turn onto Willow City Loop and follow the approximately 13-mile scenic road until it reconnects with TX 16.
- Add Enchanted Rock as a separate stop. Set your next destination to the park entrance at 16710 Ranch Road 965. Review the connecting route before riding and follow public roads and posted signs.
- Return to Fredericksburg. After your park visit, follow Ranch Road 965 south toward town for a meal and a break before the journey home.
A Scenic Ride That Rewards a Patient Pace
Willow City Loop is known for its spring wildflowers, but the surrounding hills and ranch country give you plenty to appreciate beyond bluebonnet season. Bloom timing and color depend on the weather, so treat flowers as a bonus rather than a promise.
This is a narrow country road shared with residents and other visitors. Ride at a pace that leaves room for an approaching vehicle, a tightening bend, or someone slowing ahead. Spring weekends can be busy; consider a weekday if your schedule allows.
Respect the Ranches
The land along Willow City Loop is privately owned. Do not enter fields, open gates, or use ranch driveways as photo stops. Avoid stopping in the travel lane. Save your off-bike breaks for places where parking is permitted and you can get completely clear of traffic.
Make Time for Enchanted Rock
Enchanted Rock’s pink granite dome gives the second part of your day a different character. After the road miles, this is a chance to park, stretch your legs, and take in the landscape at walking speed.
Reserve a day pass in advance to guarantee entry, and check the park’s current alerts before leaving. The Summit Trail can close during wet weather, so keep your plans flexible.
If hiking is on the agenda, pack suitable footwear and plenty of drinking water. Give yourself enough time to rest afterward before getting back on the motorcycle. A park visit does not have to include a summit hike to be worthwhile.

Keep the Day Comfortable from Start to Finish
Fuel Up Before the Backroads
Start with enough fuel for the complete itinerary. Carry water and a snack so an unexpected delay does not turn into a rushed ride.
Read the Surface
Watch for loose gravel, debris, and changing pavement conditions. Never ride through a flooded crossing or around a road closure.
Give Each Other Room
Leave generous following distance and agree on regrouping points. Let every rider choose a comfortable pace.
Save Energy for the Return
Hiking, heat, and a long ride home all count toward your day. Take breaks and plan to finish unfamiliar roads while you still have daylight.
Before departure: Check the weather, review DriveTexas for reported road conditions, and check park alerts. Local signs and closures take priority over a saved route.
Your Next Great Ride Starts with a Little Planning
Make room for the scenery, respect the communities along the way, and leave yourself time to enjoy the miles. Willow City Loop and Enchanted Rock make a good excuse to put another Hill Country day on the calendar.
