Wobbles and Weaves: What Happens When and How to Stop Them
Ever been going down the highway. Every thing is cool. Then WHOA! a wobble?
What do you do then?
The Big Black Book warns, “Motorcycles do not usually leave the same kind of evidence at accident scenes as cars because once a bike loses traction or balance, it often loses control almost immediately.
So what do you do when your bike wobbles?
Deano says you are supposed to loosen your grip and relax the accelerator.
Do NOT brake!!! Pulling the brakes can cause the bike to flip if a rider is panicked.
Do not fight the handle bars. Attempting to lock the handle bars OR stiffening your arm can magnify the wobble. LOOOSEN UP!
Stay off the front brakes! DO NOT TRIGGER YOUR FRONT BRAKES!
Move your body forward and down. Grip the gas tank with your knees to stabilize.
Do not continue riding until you are secure.
Deano said, “Most the time it’s a fuckin underinflated tire.”
“Tire pressure,” Gemini said.
“Also saddle bags that are out of balance,” Deano said.
“Unbalanced loads,” Gemini said.
